Teaser for A New Toyota Hybrid

The Toyota FT-Bh (Future Toyota B-segment Hybrid) is set to be showcased in the Geneva Auto Show, but that hasn't kept Toyota from releasing a few teaser pictures and a mysterious video. We're not sure what to make of it quite yet, but it promises to be quite a departure from the norm. Take a look at the video below, what do you think about it so far?

Days ahead of its debut at the Geneva Auto Show, Toyota has released a teaser video and a few images of its new hybrid concept car, the FT-Bh.

Styled in Japan, the concept follows Toyota's long-established naming convention where "FT" stands for Future Toyota, "B" references the vehicle's size and "h" references its hybrid engine.

B-segment cars are also known as "superminis" and include models like the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Opel Corsa, Citroën DS3, and the Peugeot 207.
What Toyota has chosen to reveal thus far are some sexy glamor shots of a headlamp and the rear of the car - complete with illuminated brake lights. In an accompanying video, we see a bit of the interior styling, a close-up walk around of the rear of the car as well as the concept's hybrid badging.

The 2012 Toyota Prius C

The New Toyota Prius C is an eye catcher for any car enthusiast, and a great deal for economy conscious car buyers. Starting at just $19,710, and with 53 mpg in city, the new Prius is stealing the show. Check out the great review by MotorTrend:
Sixteen months ago, I committed one of my better blunders when I declared the Honda Insight the more important car compared with the then-just-introduced third-generation Prius. My thinking? Economy car shoppers are notorious scrooges, and the Insight's lower base price would make it the car to blow open the doors to hybrid affordability.

Guess what? Ebenezers are willing pay a bit more for a nicer car. The Prius went on to give the Honda a terrible smacking in the showroom. And now comes the smaller and cheaper Prius C, the car prompted by that onetime Insight threat that now faces the Insight's very same challenges.

Toyota teases another hybrid ahead of Geneva

Toyota appears to be doubling down on its hybrid bet. In addition to the world premier of the Toyota Yaris hybrid, the auto manufacturer will show off a new affordable hybrid city car at the 2012 International Motor Show in Geneva next month. The company released a sketch of the concept before the reveal.

You may think that the pint-sized Yaris Hybrid and the Prius C should already count as city cars, but it appears that Toyota has something even smaller and lighter up its sleeve. Not much has been shared about the car in advance of the world premiere, but the manufacturer says it is a study of an ultra-lightweight vehicle that can be manufactured affordably without using exotic and expensive materials. The FT-Bh concept will demonstrate how a hybrid city car can be massed produced using materials and processes already used in the automotive industry.

Toyota Motor Corporation Vehicles Dominate J.D. Power and Associates 2012 Vehicle Dependability Study

TORRANCE, Calif., February 15, 2012 – Eight Lexus, Toyota, and Scion models captured segment awards in the 2012 J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study, a performance equal to all other vehicle brands combined and more than twice as many as the runner-up nameplate.

  • Scion achieves its highest ever position at fifth place, jumping up 17 positions and improving by 55 fewer problems/100.
“We are extremely pleased that not only did we win awards in eight of the 14 model segments, but that in two segments we finished one-two and made the podium in 12 segments overall”, said Jim Lentz, President and Chief Operating Officer Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

  • The 2012 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and Scion tC earned five stars for Overall safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the highest rating possible.

*The Premium Car segment is not represented in the 2012 VDS due to the small sample size for the segment.

Why Our Customers Come Back, Year After Year

Want to know why people come back to our dealership for every car they own? Take it from Linda, she sent us this great email the other day:

I reside closer to Bob Massie & Spitzer but chose Toyota of Greensburg due to my past experience in 2004 when I purchased my Camry. I was more than satisfied then and am extremely satisfied now. I purchased an Avalon this year. My salesman, Mr. Millard stayed past his quit time in order for me to test drive the car and put together a purchase contract that was satisfactory to me. Mr. Millard's expertise, knowledge, and willingness to rise above the usual made my car-buying experience a positive rather than the drudgery it sometimes has been in the past. I appreciate the courtesy shown me and as a result look forward to revisiting again if needed and recommending the dealership if asked.

I also might add the positive experience I had with Maria Ponterio as the expert she is. She took the time to explain maintenance and warranties and also made my car-buying experience enjoyable. I visited the dealership on a day that it closed at 5:00. I initially was interested in a Rav 4. Maria saw me browsing the lot as she was leaving work and asked me what I was interested in. She took the time to show me her Rav 4 interior !!! Who do you know in business these days that would have gone the extra mile? She did, which impressed me greatly.

So, the answer to your question is, I was accomodated in every way, and everyone at Toyota of Greensburg deserves kudos for making my experience positive and enjoyable.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!

Regards,
Linda S

Toyota to Increase Highlander Output, Including Hybrid and Exports, in Indiana

ERLANGER, Ky. (Feb. 8, 2012) – Toyota will increase production of the Highlander mid-size SUV in late 2013 at the company’s Princeton, Ind. plant. Hybrid and export versions will be included. The project is expected to create approximately 400 new jobs at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, Inc. (TMMI).

The company will invest about $400 million to support global demand for the Highlander, which will no longer be built in Japan by late 2013. Toyota builds Highlander in China for that market only. Annual Highlander production volume is expected to increase by approximately 50,000 units at TMMI.

Highlander is currently sold in Russia and Australia, and TMMI will export to those countries.

“This project allows for better utilization of the Indiana plant and will help Toyota capitalize on the improving North American and global auto market,” said Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. “In addition to new jobs at the Indiana plant, this project will increase opportunities and jobs for our North American supply base.”

“This project is part of our localization strategy to build vehicles where we sell them,” said TMMI President Norm Bafunno. “This announcement is a vote of confidence from Toyota Motor Corporation in the abilities of our team members and this plant.”

TMMI currently employs 4,800 and builds the Highlander, Sequoia full-size SUV and Sienna minivan.

Toyota Announces Return of '100 Cars for Good' Program in 2012

CHICAGO (February 9, 2012) – At the Chicago Auto Show today, Toyota announced the return of its “100 Cars for Good” program. For the second straight year, Toyota will award 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 U.S. nonprofits, with winners selected through public voting on the Toyota Facebook page. Applications for the program will open on March 12, 2012 http://www.facebook.com/ toyota.

The announcement was made by Michael Rouse, vice president of philanthropy and community affairs for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., who was accompanied by some of the nonprofits that received vehicles in last year’s 100 Cars for Good program.

“At Toyota, we appreciate what a big difference a new car can make for organizations working to improve lives and strengthen communities across the country, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to lend a hand,” said Rouse. “Over the last 20 years, Toyota has contributed more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits throughout the U.S. 100 Cars for Good allows us to build on that commitment in important, new ways by making the public an integral part of these efforts and harnessing the power of social media to expand awareness and galvanize support for organizations that are having such a tremendous impact in neighborhoods nationwide.”

A 2011 winner of a new Toyota Sienna, the Chicago Zoological Society, also spoke at the announcement.

“We are very appreciative of this tremendous donation from Toyota,” said Stuart Strahl, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Chicago Zoological Society. “The new van has been invaluable in our efforts to bring our conservation and informal science education programs to under-resourced communities throughout Chicago and the suburbs. Our dedicated staff travels year round to these communities, inspiring families to gain an appreciation of nature and wildlife, not only globally, but also in their own backyards. We have also used the minivan to transport young students to the zoo and field locations as part of the Society’s award-winning Youth Volunteer Corps.”

In communities across the country, vehicles from the first year of 100 Cars for Good are making a significant difference. These include:

  • Ensuring that a soup kitchen in Morristown, New Jersey can pick up food donations that used to be turned away due to a lack of transportation, allowing it to provide meals and food to even more people in need;
  • Helping a program near Detroit provide horseback riding visits for kids with cancer; and
  • Supporting the efforts of a nonprofit in Wilmington, North Carolina to train and deliver service dogs to wounded veterans.
Applying for the 2012 100 Cars for Good Program
Beginning March 12, 2012, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can apply online at  http://www.facebook.com/toyota. Finalists will be eligible to win one of six Toyota models, including the Camry Hybrid, Highlander, Prius v, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-sized pickup truck. A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services.

The 100 Cars for Good application process will last for two weeks, or until 5,000 applications are received. Of these, 500 finalists will be selected and then certified by an independent panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and social responsibility. Each finalist can then submit a video that will be featured on the Toyota 100 Cars site explaining how a new vehicle would help support its work. In addition, Toyota will be providing each of the finalists with communications and social media tools and training to assist their efforts to raise awareness for their organization.

Public voting will begin in May, with the exact date to be announced later, and will continue for 100 consecutive days. Each day, five organizations will be profiled at http:// facebook.com/toyota  and participants may vote for the charity they feel is most deserving of a vehicle.

The four runners up every day will each be awarded a $1,000 grant from Toyota.

100 Cars for Good is the first Toyota initiative that engages the public to determine how corporate philanthropic donations will be awarded. To learn more please, visit www.facebook.com/toyota.  href="http://www.100carsforgood.com/">

2013 Toyota Land Cruiser to Make North American Debut at Chicago Auto Show

Land
TORRANCE, Calif., January 31, 2012 - - The 2013 model year Toyota Land Cruiser full-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) will make its North American debut on Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the Toyota display at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.

The legendary Toyota Land Cruiser recently celebrated the 60th anniversary of its original launch in Japan, and it has remained constant in Toyota’s U.S. model lineup for more than 50 years. Land Cruiser has evolved over time from a basic four-wheel-drive utility vehicle in its early years, to an upscale eight-passenger SUV sold in 188 countries. Yet, this iconic vehicle has retained a loyal following as it remains true to its off-road heritage with uncompromising go-anywhere capability.

The 2013 Land Cruiser receives an array of new and updated equipment, inside and out. Refreshed exterior styling includes an updated front grille and headlamps with HID low-beams. Additional new features include LED Daytime Running Lights, chrome side molding, redesigned outer side mirrors and tail lamps.

Complementing the freshened exterior, Land Cruiser receives an updated interior that is available in either Sandstone or Black. Additional refinements include perforated leather trim with ventilated front seats, a higher gloss wood grain finish, brighter silver instrument-panel ornamentation, chrome-plated air registers, and updated meter-cluster lighting. New interior convenience features include a Multi-terrain Monitor with front, side or rear selectable views; a new Multi-information Display; an Eco Driving Indicator light and zone display; a heated steering wheel; Dynamic Radar Cruise Control; an additional 12V-DC power outlet at the rear of the center console; and a rear-cargo-deck power outlet that has been changed to AC 120V from AC 115V.

Land Cruiser will now come with all features as standard equipment, including new driving-performance components, and an array of significant safety and convenience features. Standard performance and safety features include five-speed CRAWL control with Off-Road Turn Assist, Multi-Terrain Select, Multi-Terrain Anti-lock Brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution, Trailer Sway Control, Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and a retuned suspension.

Among the many popular features that were formerly available as options, but are now standard, are a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, color-keyed rear spoiler, rain-sensing windshield wipers, center-console cooler box, headlamp cleaners, leather-trimmed steering wheel, multi-information display, voice and Bluetooth® hands-free controls, leather-trimmed shift lever and heated second row seats. Toyota’s Premium Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation with Entune multi-media system and JBL® audio is also standard.

The Land Cruiser’s 5.7-liter V8 DOHC engine produces 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 401 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm. Ninety percent of peak torque is available at just 2,200 rpm, helping make it an outstanding tow vehicle. The Land Cruiser uses regular-grade (87 AKI) gasoline and is ULEV-II certified.

The 2013 Land Cruiser will be arriving at Toyota dealerships this month.
